Welcome! We are under construction.
Bathrooms on high school campuses are prime locations for teens to sneak a stealth vape during school hours. This activity indicates the prevalence of vaping use on campus and the severity of nicotine addiction, and results in the contamination of bathrooms, which can present a health hazard for other students.
Dr. Neil Klepeis is leading a project at San Diego State University (SDSU) in which student Citizen Scientists in Southern California work to raise awareness about on-campus teen vaping and engage school administrators to support efforts that address nicotine addiction and reduce environmental contamination.
We support and guide students in gathering and analyzing data, preparing reports, and devising communication strategies.

High school students participate in this project by:
Using the Personal Exposure Toolkit (PET) to measure the environmental impacts of vaping on campus in terms of secondhand exposures
Observing environmental waste associated with vaping and smoking
Measuring thirdhand smoke contamination
Communicating results to peers, teachers, principals, school boards, parents, and others.
