Welcome! We are under construction.
Dr. Neil Klepeis at San Diego State University (SDSU) is leading a Citizen Science project to support California communities in measuring Multi-Unit Housing (MUH) secondhand smoke and exploring ways to increase awareness and promote smoke-free MUH policies.
Funding provided in part from: Tobacco Releted Disease Research Program (TRDRP)
Are you interested in doing a Citizen Science study of MUH exposure in your building?

Here is an example of data collected using a personal exposure monitor in an apartment building:
We are collaborating with individuals who are affected or concerned about tobacco, cannabis, or vaping use in apartments or condos. Study participants will be supported as follows:
We will provide you with a Personal Exposure Toolkit (PET) for air monitoring to measure exposure
We will provide training and assistance in using the PET
We will guide you in documenting secondhand smoke exposure inside and outside the building
We will help you create summaries and personal narratives about exposure that can be shared with others in your community, at city hall, or with the media.
A flyer for the study is available here for download:
